Grocery stores with cafes are usually hit and miss and still mediocre at best, but not this one.
We ordered the “Benny Bowl” and were impressed with every aspect of it.
Everything was fresh and the homemade hash browns were a welcome option compared to the typical deep fried “breakfast potatoes” usually offered by other cafes.
Two points for the great, friendly service by the face staff!

The store is clean, busy, well stocked. Prices were cheaper than i expected too. I like it, good supplement and vitamin options as well. This little town is so darn beautiful too!

I would highly recommend this little grocery store to anyone in the area. It is not a large supermarket. It is a small town grocery store that represents everything good about small town living. First of all, it had everything we needed. The store is well organized and well kept. There were enough cashiers working to keep lines small. The staff is friendly. They have a small cafe for coffee as well as a gardening section like a home store. But what impressed me the most about this store was their community involvement. They had a big sign in the store welcoming home a young teenager who survived a terrible car crash. Everyone in the store seemed to know the girl and left donations for her family. Out in front of the store, there was a tent where a dance team was selling hot dogs to raise money. They were super friendly. If you are driving to the south west coast near Poet Renfrew or Jordan River I highly recommend stopping here for groceries. It is the last place you can get groceries on your way. Even if you don’t need groceries, stop by for a cup of coffee just to experience the neighborly atmosphere of this little grocery store.

Occasionally we get flyers in our mail for different grocery stores. Every single time, opposing stores are the ones that have cheaper prices. There was an instance a month ago where every package of their strawberries had mold on the bottom. This happens often as it seems their staff rarely overlook their produce to make sure it is fresh and I've been going to this store for nearly a decade. Past employees have mentioned that in terms of produce, Country Grocer gets the bottom of the barrel. Affordable options always disappear from the shelves, new bread has mold on it, and cereal is cheaper to purchase from Amazon. It is a disservice to the community for those who have a hard time leaving town to grocery shop. Yesterday we had a staff member decline to help us and instead, sat in the isle organizing cans. Staff are friendly though, most seem to dislike the overall work environment.

Outstanding. I had never thought a 'Store-Cafe' would be my go to (no offence), but it has proven to be very wonderful. Firstly, the staff is all very friendly, kind and efficient. They know what they are making, and how to make it well. From a trusted source, I have heard the London Fogs are made "Exponentially well...compared to anywhere else in all of LC"...(no offence anyone). The pricing is also really reasonable from what I have gotten, and the seating has good back support. A relaxing-cozy atmosphere, newspapers and local magazines are available. The people are also very nice, and did not kick me out the few times I had to sit down for a little (without ordering anything), when I ate my own food from home. You also did not have to buy anything in order to use the bathroom, which may seem weird to mention, but important, because more places should not make you spend money in order to do that. The only issue however, is that the staff is not allowed to accept tips for there wonderful service.

I give this store one star because of the outstanding staff. Super friendly and helpful. The prices are unbelievably expensive - that's what happens with a monopoly - raw sugar last week was 4.99 - today 6.99! Oh yay peppers are on sale - red, yellow and orange - but stems are left on and so are you really getting a deal because stems weigh into the price? So many items - regular and on sale are near the due date or past. The meat is thin and tough. So disgusted that this is our only choice in Lake Cowichan - over priced and past the due date. Check your expiry dates on everything. Very sad.
