Currently I am a student at this school in Gr 8. I can say that majority of the teachers are helpful and kind while some of them are absolutely terrible people, for instance the substitutes.
I personally enjoy all the teachers I've had so far, they're always found ways to help me out when I was struggling terribly, and I enjoy seeing them out in the hallways.
There are a lot of nice kids, and people who are more than happy to help. The school events are also really cool and most love to participate in them, and there's extra classes that you're allowed to take to expand your learning. For instance, Ceramics! It's where you get to create your own projects out of clay, and paint them yourself to complete then take home with you.
Now, there's a big problem with mice infestations, the bathrooms, and kids now smuggling weed or (fake or real) weapons into their bags.
Firstly, in my class, a kid has been caught with a fake gun, and I'm pretty sure either way it was still dangerous because it could've been real. They did not get suspended which is actually shocking, since considering the fact that if that was real? This class would probably been dead. They also did nothing about it, and only sent out an email to parents on what happened.
Secondly, bathrooms are terrible, the toilets barely work in the girls washroom, and the stall doors are next to broken to the point one of them can't even close anymore. There's probably pee on the floor in the boys washrooms, and overall the bathrooms are not sanitary.
Thirdly, mice have been seen scurrying around classrooms multiple times, and no one has done anything. How is that out of all things ok and to not deal with Sure, you may be trying but it's really not that hard to pay for pest control or an exterminator? The least you could also do is get mouse traps.
Bullying is also another problem this school can't seem deal with properly. The Principal doesn't do much on situations when informed, and simply puts them on her watch list. But what is that going to do, like really? How is it going to help a bullied student? I think personally, it should be leading to suspension or the parents of the bullies actually being called and informed of everything their doing. Bullying can get to someone's head, and can lead a kid to ending their life because of it. So really take this into consideration.
One last problem I have with this school.
During the 2023 Halloween Dance, boys had been caught peaking under girl's dresses, and probably also touching them in inappropriate places. The school simply sent out an email about it, and then went on with their day. Like NO? That can fall under something called, "sexual harassment," so it really pisses me off how they did basically NOTHING about it. Use your common sense to figure out that is not ok!!
Ugh. Overall, I feel like the staff needs to actually take care of this school a bit better, since it's a giant mess. They should actually do more than just a simple talk with kids who are picking or bullying others, and maybe actually get this mouse problem fixed because this is disgusting. Oh yeah, and actually learn how to handle disgusting situations properly and not just send out an email.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good school with good teachers, but you all really need to get your stuff together and stop shoving stuff under the carpet.
