We attended the Barista Institute at the Burnaby location in August. My daughter and I were very impressed with the detailed course content and interactive teaching format. The small group setting was very personal and easy to ask questions of the instructor. The business course was informative and extremely helpful in outlining all the necessary details involved in starting a coffee business from the history of coffee bean harvesting, to roasting, cupping the coffee to taste sample, hands on training on the machines and costing/menu planning.
I would highly recommend CBI if you are looking to expand your knowledge base in the coffee industry. One last comment, they have also been incredibly helpful after the course with guidance, insight and pointing us in the right direction for many planning aspects for our upcoming business planning. 10/10

I’m a part time barista working at a local cafe with experience at a coffee shop when I was a teen. I decided because I enjoyed making coffee so much I, I wanted to learn more about and how to make drinks the correct way. I mean it’s just coffee, right?

I cannot express how much I wish I had taken this course before or during my beginning stages of being a barista. This course IS A MUST if you want to get into or be open to improving as a barista. Keep in mind my experience is limited to the 2 day full barista course that I took.

Needless to say, our instructors Calvin and Les were no less than exceptional. The information provided was incredibly detailed and you could feel the passion in the course. There were sheets we got to fill out, watched a PowerPoint, LOTS of hands on experience. If you’re anything like me, you’ll learn after this course, it’s not JUST coffee. It’s truly an art. There’s so much to learn about coffee and continue progressing as barista.

I personally feel that after having taken this course., my ability to serve my customers the best quality coffee has drastically improved after this course. I’ve learned how to move faster and more efficiently, how to isolate what I’m doing wrong and how to improve, I’ve even learned how to TASTE coffee.

Jamie & Matt run a great course and have all of the knowledge and experience to back it up. This course is great for everyone from all backgrounds - Current business owners, prospective business owners and coffee enthusiasts. The course is very thourough with practical and theoretical concepts. I myself come from a strong coffee background but found new (unbiased) information, knowledge and practical skills that can be immediately applied in any situation. (At home or in a cafe).

I recommend this course for anyone who has a love for coffee!

I took the 4 days course in Calgary, Jamie was my mentor!! He has taken an extremely awesome role in the course!! A great mentor who’s been so supportive, helpful and patient, moreover, he’s such a genuine person with everyone in the class!!!
I believe if I have any questions about the barista skills and business skills in the future, I’ll come back to him!!
I’d learned a lot of both barista skills and business knowledges. More precisely, the people who I’d had in my class are all amazing, we had a great exchange experience!! Each person was so selfless and kind that they were willing to share their thoughts and experiences and ideas. As myself was the one who has the least experience of business in the class, I’d say I have gained so much knowledge!!
It’s truly an amazing experience, highly recommend it!!!!
