This is a great museum if you like to see 100s of old trinkets and other old miscellaneous items. It is not a place where you can learn the history of the area. The displays are very dark with very little information. We were very disappointed. Fortunately the entrance fee is only a CAD$5 donation.

They are so helpful here! They were setting me up with information on some family history there and found out where family was buried. I am so grateful for all that they do 🙂 The layout of the museum as well is lots of fun to explore. They’ve done an incredible job.

I love this stuff and really enjoyed sharing this experience with my kids. My kids are very curious about First Nation culture and history and the had so many questions about the display pieces that I could quickly look up in the binders available in front of each exhibit. My youngest wants to do his next birthday here because they have some really cool sounding activities for groups with kids.
Be advised that the do like bigger groups to retested in advance.

Unique museum. Takes some work to appreciate all the artifacts as they are not labeled.

Interesting back In time experience. They have the info on their exhibits but we found it difficult to locate the info in their catalogue system -old school and unfamiliar system. Entry is donation and definitely worth a visit. Make for the library it's in the same building.

AVM is a top notch local museum. They have really great collections of local artifacts telling of the rich and diverse history of the Alberni Valley. I especially liked the ugly dolls - they can be forgiven since they were made by an elderly blind man. There's a lot more and it's definitely worth checking out!

Great little museum (go through the library doors then turn right). It was just a bit hard to find in the building. Good displays, friendly staff. Good overview of the areas history.
