The hi-light of my day is going to CLS to get supplies in the summer. Mason and Kaylee are super friendly and knowledgeable. On special occasions Cooper helps me pick out product and it makes me feel appreciated as a small business owner. They have the greatest selection and I've enjoyed building my family a fire place, as well as planting large trees, doing natural stone walls and mulch for clients all out of 3 convenient locations.

Picked up some discontinued Bengard patio pavers today. We phoned Bearspaw CLS Landscape Supplies in Calgary. The staff was extremely helpful and quick to answer our questions and set up the order for us. Their yard is extremely easy to get to and payment to loading the order up was accomplished in just minutes. The order was loaded on my trailer with minimum wait and I was on my way. Wonderfully helpful staff, cheerful and efficient staff with knowledge made the experienced really wonderful. Will do business any time again. Greg Watson Calgary

These people are absolute crooks. They were very confident in helping me spec my small landscaping job. When 5 times the stuff showed up at my house. I asked if they could return it. They took the stuff then never refunded me. When I got heated on the phone the guy at the Cochrane branch started laughing at me. What a lower.

There was a mixup with our delivery. After some back and forth one of the branch managers personally drove to our house and delivered a missing part of our order. It was a small item that was the lynchpin of our project. This demonstration of customer service was very much appreciated - thank you Troy.

Three times this season I have had the pleasure of dealing with CLS. I have purchased and picked up landscaping materials and it was a seamless process, and they made it very efficient. We are not professional landscapers and the staff helped us and were able to give top quality advice and service. In fact, we went to CLS on our first visit to get a load of black mulch, and upon arriving we discovered they had a large variety of shrubs, and perennials. We did a one stop shop! Based on our initial positive experience we returned twice more even though we live quite some distance away. Rather than lining up at other stores that do not have any product we pulled up, and shopped around, and found exactly what we were looking for. We have recommended CLS to our friends and colleagues.

If time line is important to you choose another provider. They are unable to meet their own deadlines.

After waiting 48 hours past the delivery time they provided I was informed my material would not be delivered for another 72 hours. 5 days after the promised time.

On top of late delivery they delivered the wrong material, forcing another time line delay.

Save yourself the stress and don’t bother.

Over 2 years ago, we were looking to have a deck built. When engaging with contractors, we were sent to CLS to look at materials. CLS approached us with the pitch: 'whoever builds this will inevitably have to come to us for the supplies. Why not have us build the deck and cut out the middle man' sounded like a reasonable pitch.

I thus contracted CLS to design and build the deck. What a mistake :-/

CLS quoted us over $130,000 for the design and construction of the structure. The experience has been horrible. It is now over 2 years and the deck has yet to be completed. We have had to constantly hound them to show up, do the work, and clean up the site when they leave. Over the past two summers we have constantly worried about the kids getting hurt due to nails, shards of metal left all over the lawn, and piles of construction materials left around the site.

When we complained about the shabby work, CLS took the position that our expectations were too high, so we contracted Mike Homes Inspection services to review the work. The inspector came back with a long list of safety concerns, sloppy work, and building code violations. CLS's position was 'the inspector is not qualified to comment'. So we hired a professional engineer to review the inspector's work. The engineer confirmed that the deck was structurally unsound and needed to be fixed. CLS's response has always been, 'we are losing money on this project, please pay more than the contracted billing milestones or we will not do anything'. Finally, Rocky View County inspected the deck and identified building code violations and have deemed the stairs and landings are not safe to use.

CLS's response is 'we built this according to the design that the subcontracted engineer provided', please pay to have it redesigned and rebuilt. The design was provided by a firm that CLS chose and CLS paid for (we were not involved, other than to say ... 'ya, that captures what we are looking for')

We have paid CLS over $100,000 and we are left with a deck that we have never been able to use, is a complete mess, and has been deemed unsafe to access. We have never delayed any payments and we have paid more than the outlined billing milestones (our mistake).

We now only have one choice, rip down the deck, have it redesigned by a professional builder, and sue CLS for the redesign and rebuild.

If you are considering CLS for a project, ensure you have the contracts in place (like we did), ensure you have good lawyers, and be ready for a long unprofessional engagement that will inevitably end up in court. Better yet, look elsewhere for a professional company that focuses on construction, not supply.

If you are a builder using CLS's supplies, ensure you do not send your prospective customers to CLS to review material options. You may end up being cut out of the project. Better yet, consider getting your supplies from a vendor who will not try to cut you out of your projects.
