I completed my Professional Responder Instructor Recertification course with Lianne this past week. I usually try to go to AHASTI for all of my recertifications, even though I live west of Edmonton, and they are in Calgary.
The instructors are knowledgeable, approachable, and high-energy. I always learn something new, and it is worth the trip.
My only criticism would be the break structure. If you need to take any sort of a break, you will miss something, no matter how minor. I don't think there would be anything against a couple of 10 minute breaks.
Thanks AHASTI! See you in May for my First Aid Instructor Recert.

Unfortunately, I do not recommend AHASTI's EMR program. As a former student, I tried my best to navigate the experience with professionalism though it was difficult. Timelines, assignments, and expectations were never communicated clearly, despite asking for clarification. AHASTI will tell you it's a 3 month course when in reality it's 2 months full-time with the last month off (aside from completing a 16 hour patient engagement). AHASTI gave us unclear expectations regarding our the patient engagement and was not quick to respond (took a few business days) when simple clarifying questions were asked. *This may just be my opinion but for the money it costs to be in the program you'd think AHASTI would have partnerships with organizations in the surrounding area for it's students to complete the required hours for patient engagement. Instead, students are expected to find a place willing to take them without knowing if the experience they are about to have is what AHASTI requires of them.* The building itself is outdated, which doesn't affect the quality or material of the program, however it makes it extremely difficult to learn. The classroom gets to be what feels like 30+ degrees, making it near impossible to focus on the skills and/or scenarios being taught, especially when you must wear pants and closed toes shoes (even during the Summer months). I could seriously write a 7 page essay on the things I think could have been done differently to ensure students were set up for success.
The only positive experiences I had were with my main instructor, Stacey R, BLS instructor Sarah, and Serenity (I forget her title). Shoutout to them for making classes inclusive and enjoyable. They made memorable connections to the material and tailored their teaching styles to the students in the class. They really are the one shining star in all of this!!

The class itself was great! The instructor was very friendly and made it a lot more comfortable with her personality. The only thing I will say is the receptionist or whoever answered the phone was very rude. I was misinformed of the class I needed to take, and when I called to inquire about how I could get the proper one afterwards, the receptionist appeared to blame me for the miscommunication. I decided to go with St. John's to complete the full first aid course.

I love doing my CPR here. The class sizes are smaller, so you can get more feedback from the instructor and usually finish a couple of minutes early. The instructors are all pleasant and appropriate.

This was by far most informative and enjoyable First Aid course I have ever taken, because of Sarah the wonderful instructor. Sarah had some learning activities that really helped me remember important information. I would highly recommend this course and instructor.
