Reviewing on behalf of my Son and Husband! We have been thinking of joining a Jiu-Jitsu club for many years- we couldn't wait until our son was old enough to get involved. My husband was always into watching martial arts and is a National competitor in powerlifting- he has known for a while that he's only got a couple more powerlifting competitions left in him... And now that he's been to some Adult Jiu-Jitsu classes, he's totally hooked and ready to make the switch sooner than later. In the weeks that my Son has started classes, he's been SUPER amazing at daycare and home- I couldn't believe the discipline he acquired in only a couple classes. It's a bonus that father and son are doing it together now as they practice their new skills together at home (SO CUTE). I am happy with the professionalism and community that I feel when I'm in the club. We will be life-er's and I can't wait for my daughter to join as well!

I have been attending Okotoks BJJ for more than a year, and it has had a significant impact on the way that I live my life. There are four outstanding black belts with what I would estimate is a combined experience level of 60-70 years. If making a decision as to whether or not to take up a martial art, this is the experience that I have had.

1) Fitness. First and foremost, I have lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight. I had not stepped on a scale in eight years due to lack of confidence and fear for what it would say. After eight months of training (choices with food naturally change as you live a "jiu-jitsu lifestyle"), I had reached about 170 lbs. (at six feet). I am 42 and in the best shape of my life.

2) Confidence. At the seven month mark I competed in my first tournament. I am now signed up for my fourth. I walk around feeling more confident with myself due to the ability that I have learned to deal with discomfort and overcome adversity. This has made me happier in all aspects of my life.

3) Community. I have made many good friends during my time at OBJJ. People care that you are there and notice when you are gone. Relationships of trust are built, as we put our health in the hands of others as we complete dangerous maneuvers. It fits a similar niche to a church, but where people talk about various skills regarding martial combat.

My daughter has been going to OBJJ for 6.5 years.The instructors are very knowledgeable and keep things interesting and fun. She looks up to her professor and coach and considers them family. My husband and I also go to the adult classes and enjoy it alot. It has been great for getting in shape, weight loss, and meeting really great people. I highly recommend!

Prof Paul and Prof Christa (and fellow coaches) have been amazing with my son. They have provided a strict but caring environment for the children to learn BJJ in. My son has ADHD and can be very impulsive and tests the limits as much as possible but he quickly learned to be respectful in class due to the structure in place and fell in love with the sport. He looks forward to class, even on the days that he is tired from a full school day. I am very thankful for the past 6 months, as with the current pandemic and restrictions, it seems to be rare to see a kid so happy about something. Thank you for nurturing his passion for BJJ.
