I did PPL groundschool at PATC, and the instructors were awesome, especially Kristen. However my view completely changed when I finished my flight training at Calgary flying club.

I needed to do my PPL written exam so I kindly asked PATC for a letter of recommendation, having no answer after 5 emails and 6 phone calls. I tried a 7th phone call which I did get answered by the CFI. I explained the situation but his response was a deal breaker for me. He refused to give me a letter of recommendation adding " I can not sign a paper for you not to pass, I can not put my name on a failing exam, it would not look good on record"and promised to contact me in 2 days to see how we could handle the situation (that call / email never came). So much for the confidence in your students.

As a result I ended up going to the Calgary flying club which without hesitation did a quick practice exam ( passed with 85%) , wrote a letter of recommendation, and presented the written exam (which I passed) all in just 1 week.

Hopefully you don't have to go through this nightmare and have to resource to another flight school just because they don't believe in their students.

I finished my PPL training and Checkride at PATC and the word that I can use to describe this school/training centre is EXCELLENT.
They have exceptional planes that are well taken care of and always super clean, with modern avionics. The instructors provide a high level of individual help and superb quality training and go above and beyond. I started my Training before COVID at CYBW Springbank and must say that there is no comparison. It was a huge privilege to fly with Instructors that e.g train other pilots in aerobatics (Michael Fox) with thousands of hours and years of experience or that have flown Twin Otters in the Jungles and Mountainous valleys of Papua New Guinea (CFI). My main instructor was Nate and I can highly recommend him. He is in his early twenties but on top of being an excellent aviator, he also has the gift of being a great teacher and communicator. He’s humble and knowledgeable!
The prices are very competitive (almost the same as in Calgary) but you definitely get much more back.
Also, if you happen to be Christian, there is a culture of prayer and an international body of (young) student pilots that worship the God that gave humanity the brains and physics to make aviation possible.
I wish I would have the time and money to be trained there to be a commercial pilot and fully licensed (multi IFR), however I will be leaving Canada soon. If you read this and have any doubts about choosing your flight school, be assured - flight training does not get better than there! Go for it!
