I am so grateful for Sonya and that she was apart of our birth journey. She provided the knowledge I needed to ground myself and get into the necessary head space to have a home birth. I had a long labor which unfortunately ended at the hospital due to complications which was very difficult for me as that was completely out of the realm of what I had envisioned. I don't know what I would have done with out Sonya keeping me grounded through the experience until the end. I could not imagine our birth journey without her. She went above and beyond.

From the moment I found out we were expecting our first child, I knew I wanted the support of a doula; Someone to guide me through a healthy pregnancy, help me prepare for an unmedicated water birth at home, support me through labour, and provide postpartum guidance for all the questions that come with breastfeeding and life with a newborn.

Thanks to Sonya and my midwives, I was able to have my dream birth experience, even at 41 weeks and 5 days. As my due date came and went, I felt anxious about the possibility of a hospital induction. Sonya reassured me to trust my body and my baby’s timing. She was incredibly responsive whenever I needed her, lending us books to prepare for birth and postpartum and offering unwavering emotional support.

When I went into labour, I texted her in the middle of the night, and despite it being 3 AM, she responded immediately and was at my home within 30 minutes. Throughout my labour, she reminded me of my strength, suggested positions to help progress labour while also offering relief when I needed a break, and kept me nourished and hydrated, making and feeding me food to ensure I had the energy to keep going. She also reassured my husband, guiding him on how to best support me so that we both felt confident and cared for. Sonya made everyone protein pancakes in our kitchen post-birth, and helped clean up the birthing areas, deflate the pool she provided for the birth, helped me get into and out of the shower, and many more helpful tasks around the home to ensure that I could rest with my baby peacefully in bed.

Now, 10 days postpartum, I’m enjoying the delicious lactation cookies she made and reading through the helpful resources she’s shared with us. Knowing we have her support for six weeks postpartum gives me so much peace of mind. It’s funny to say this so soon, but I’m already looking forward to my next birth experience, and I truly hope to have Sonya by my side again.

Often I would think that it’s the ladies that vocalize their experience on here more but from a man’s perspective…. Guys, don’t think twice. My goal was to get one or two things from the sessions that would help me be a better partner to my wife through the labour and I got that, and more. Going into the labour part of things, I thought I was doing a good job but once Sonya arrived it elevated everything, and allowed me to just be there for my wife and not worry about anything else. Sonya arrived… turned the lights down in the room at the Royal Alex, got the speaker going, brought a little projector to illuminate galaxies on the ceiling and then immediately tapped into supporting my wife. She then took her to the shower to run water down her back, checked in with me to give advice on what to do, and it resulted in a beautiful birth. I have had three friends that have used Sonya and we all grouped called each other after the labour saying “thank god for Sonya”.to each other. I highly recommend because it will make the experience that much better and ensure your wife reaches her pregnancy goals. Thank you so much Sonya.

Sonya was absolutely amazing to have as a doula, not only for my wife but for me as well - she helped and guided me to provide the support my wife needed. My wife had been wanting to do a natural birth with no interventions, and Sonya's support made all the difference in helping make this happen.
