I had initially purchased a ticket for the 5PM sailing to Swartz Bay, but due to unexpected traffic (Im not a local) I realized that I wasnt going to make it so I called ahead and asked them to switch me to the 6PM sailing.

I arrived at the terminal at 5:18, and the lady--Indian(?)/tan complexion, scanned my ticket and told me I was supposed to be for 5PM. I explained to her that I had moved to the 6pm sailing and I even showed her the email BC Ferries sent me. She disregarded it, told me to call the BC Ferries number, told me to sort it out(nothing needed sorting) and she put me in a Non-Reservation Lane. Which made me miss the 6PM sailing. I called the BC Ferries number and I was told they would get the Manager involved to help me out as I was now stuck in a lane that was non-reservation. I was told the staff at the terminal will contact me to make sure I get on the 7pm sailing. No one came.

This is just proof that even if you as a customer did EVERYTHING RIGHT, all it takes is for 1 lousy, rude employee to screw your travel plans up. It was a problem that could have easily been avoided if the Toll Booth agent actually tried to LISTEN rather than shoo me away. I asked the gentleman who helped me on the phone to forward and file a formal complaint and I will be sending one to their head office as well

Update: Staff are still awesome at their jobs and get those lines moving. Keep up the great service..
Never a hassle driving onto the ferry. Staff at the booth are usually upbeat and friendly. These guys have this system of loading cars down to a science, it's pretty cool to watch..

Arrived at 3:00 with a 5:00 reserve and asked the ticket booth if it would be possible to get on the 4:00 ferry. Response, a snarky "there's a two sailing wait. What do you think? You are lucky you have a 5:00 booking. Now leave and don't come back until 4:00" I guess it's fine for service workers to be rude but if I am they can refuse service. Do better BC Ferries.

BC Ferries is great for transportation to and from the island but they give zero effort in telling everybody who has cars to turn off their alarm. People who have pets and babies in the car are constantly badgered by car alarms.
You don’t let pets indoors on cold days and expect us to sit outside or in a tiny cold room with them so they have to be in the car to keep warm.
Why cant they tell people at the tollbooth when they are being ticketed to turn their alarms off? I have no clue. They assume people will listen to announcements when majority don’t.

Today, I encountered an extremely inefficient and rude employee. The two cars ahead of me waited for over 5 minutes, causing us to be delayed and nearly miss our scheduled time. When it was my turn, he had his back to us, wasting time in the corner doing who knows what. I asked him to speed up because I was in a hurry, but he turned around angrily and demanded that I say 'sorry' to him. I refused, and he then said that if I didn’t apologize, he wouldn’t serve me. I took a photo of him and told him I was going to file a complaint, and only then did he scan my booking code. As I drove away, he even swore at me. I’ve been using BC Ferries for over 10 years and have never encountered such rude staff.(#111685)

People at the toll booth didn’t give me any estimate on when I can board. Ended up wasting 5h waiting there, missing 3 sails 2h apart. They prioritize people booking in advance, which is fine, but not informing people about wait time when selling ticket at the tool booth is just irresponsible. Also, if the demand is still that high, why cut back schedule to have only one sail every two hours. One star is fully deserved for greedy and terrible customer service.
