No snow days even though the busses are all delayed/canceled, the streets are hard/dangerous to walk I and we are still being forced. Also [blank math teacher, you can find it if you look] has been proven not safe/good to be around students due to inappropriate interactions and is still employed (he's also REALLY bad at his job causing an overly high fail rate...)

The admin staff in updating parents via websites and social media is deplorable. I see both BC Transit and school district 63 is closed due to heavy snowfall warning but this district website still has zero updates initially then arguing with parents that school is remaining open? Be more prepared for your own staff (teachers) and parents of children who goes to schools in your district in serious weather conditions.

My children are high school students who also work part-time jobs in addition to extracurricular activities so they need clear answers whether school is still in session or not so their valuable time is not wasted. Some students do have daily planning as their priority.

Deplorable.

Excellent communication via website. Good curriculum for students of all ages. Most teachers are excellent and really care about their students. Some of the comments here from adults need to return to school. On snow days, drive or walk appropriately,

Amazing people! The respect I had for them then it's nothing to the ever growing respect and awe that I feel now. My hat's off to all of the SD61 teachers and EAs (Education Assistants). The challenges that these amazing people have and yet are still able to put a smile on their faces and continue their day. They get bitten, scratched, kicked, spat on and this is only the "minor" incidents.
As a parent and an EA I too feel frustrated when my child isn't as focused on as I think my princess should be. But sadly I have witnessed how no matter how big hearted and wonderful her teacher is (and she truly is) she is only one person with only one EA who also only has two eyes and two arms. Four arms arms and four eyes may sound like enough for a class especially if you believe that your wonderful child represents the classroom norm. He/ she is not. If your lucky the classroom has 20 children one or two has a designation, but now count the children who have learning disability but either their waiting to be diagnosed or there is no diagnosis because it's not a cognitive disability but a traumatic event in their short life and there are way too many young souls in our school systems where this is true.
So if your child comes home with their little snack container not put on properly and it made a mess in their lunch kits, (been there) just remember your child's teacher or EA was probably keeping him/herself from being assaulted or keeping your child or another child safe. Support your public school teachers and EAs who CHOOSE to work with your children in the public schools. They/we are not over paid babysitters/bored housewives.

SD61 made us go to school even though its so ICEY that my car did a full 180 spin. Yet they call the roads CLEAR! Not acceptable. Worst excuse to have more school. Nanimo and Duncan had the exact same road reports, but Nanimo and Duncan had all schools have a Snow Day. Yet SD61 STILL makes us go to school! Horrible

Obviously there will be a wide variety of opinions on how good a school district is based on a variety of factors such as the school you go to, or whether you are a parent like I am. Personally, I can recommend LakeHill elementary and the surrounding executive with full marks. Everyone seems to really care and the school has a terrific vibe (and my kids agree!)

Nice people. But they really should have called a snow day. There was so much black ice, I almost broke something walking to school.
