I visited this centre with a friend and was very impressed with the facility. Great indoor courts with an impressive viewing gallery. The folks I met seemed friendly and welcoming. However, I did hear it’s super hard to find courts to play in because of how popular the place is.

I’m deeply concerned about the lack of safety measures at this facility. Why are homeless individuals being allowed to use the showers late at night? This feels extremely unsafe for patrons. It’s already unsettling enough that camper vans are constantly parked outside, with their occupants often engaging in drug use, drinking, and behaving rudely toward people leaving the centre. Allowing them to freely access the facility only exacerbates the problem.

What will it take for proper safety rules to be implemented—someone getting injured? It’s unsettling to walk to our cars at night, passing individuals with aggressive dogs who are often intoxicated or belligerent. The lack of action from the tennis centre sends a clear message that the safety of its members and staff is not a priority.

Imagine the risks: a woman being harassed on her way to her car, a coach being injured in a confrontation, or a child feeling unsafe in the changerooms. This is unacceptable. As the responsible party for this facility and its surrounding area, it’s time for the tennis centre to take action and ensure a safe environment for everyone.

I wanted to let you know an incident I had with a woman working this morning at the North Van Tennis Centre. I had a 7 am court. I arrive at 6:53. It was three degrees outside. There were about five of us waiting at the door. The lights were on and there was a woman sitting at the desk sipping warm coffee on her phone while we all froze in tennis gear outside. I knocked on the door for her to simply let us in and not freeze. She looked up, saw me, acted annoyed and went back to her phone and coffee. She finally let us in at 7 am on the dot (which cuts into my court time that starts at 7am) after we had been freezing outside in plain view of her for 7 minutes. She then said “who was getting upset?” I’m an angry tone. And added “I don’t have to let anyone in until 7 am”. While true, it is not the kind thing to do to loyal tennis players freezing outside in December. This is unfortunately typical of the desk staff at this place. Instruction is fantastic, desk staff is often rude and unhelpful.

I have no idea what this place is like, I would love to give them money, but booking a court is quite literally impossible.

Nice courts for sure, but the staff is very unfriendly and unprofessional. It is also absolutely impossible to book a court, with the current, horrible booking system they have in place. You call to give them money, and they won't take your booking. They say you have to book 24h in advance maximum, so I call back at 12:59 and they say sorry the 1 is now booked, and are quite rude about it. Go to UBC or Surrey

Their antiquated system for court booking is a joke. They oversell advance booking cards and even if you have one, you can only book one court a week and it's extremely difficult to book prime-time courts. To book, you have to phone in, wait on hold usually for at least 5 minutes and then go through the steps of reading out your credit card to them every single time you get through. As others have mentioned, there's no point in even wasting your time trying for 24hr courts as they're impossible to get.

The front desk staff are quite nice, especially Holly and Gohli. Some coaches are more attentive than others, but their group lessons aren't great. There are usually way too many people in them (often 6 to a court), they rarely correct technical flaws and the levels are not good. Too many people are stuck in 3.5 due to the ridiculous assessment they have for passing 4.0. Essentially only men can pass and it's the same coach who does the assessments and he's very biased. Even women who play Div 1 inter-city league, are rated 4.0 at other tennis centres and who play 4.0+ NTRP tournaments can't pass the assessment. The NVTC doesn't care though, because they have lots of revenue coming in. For this reason, they have lost many loyal players who spent lots of time and money over the years at the NVTC to other clubs and facilities.

I no longer play there because I'm so frustrated by the lack of attentiveness to their loyal clientele and their unwillingness to change their programming to meet the needs of their customers. It's too bad because it could be a great facility. There are many other good clubs to join where you will get good quality coaching, and the option to book courts without the hassle of this place. The NVTC needs to get its act together.
