I’ve been training with David for the better part of four years and have been at Disciple BJJ since its inception in April 2024, following him from a previous gym. Over the years, David has grown into an incredible coach and an even better friend.

He is reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented, with a meticulous approach to teaching. Whether coaching a full class or offering individual guidance, he remains approachable and always willing to help students refine their techniques. One of David’s greatest strengths is his open-minded approach to Jiu-Jitsu—he encourages creativity, welcomes different styles, and stays up to date with the latest trends in the sport.

Would 100% recommend Disciple BJJ! I was visiting for only a couple of days and looking for somewhere that did drop-ins for training, and I can't speak highly enough of my visit to Disciple.

David the head coach is skilled and knowledgeable, and has a clear passion for jiujitsu and coaching. I went to the Wednesday comp class and found a good balance of positional and goal-oriented rounds, and then tougher but still strategy-focused rounds. David caters to all skill levels. They have a great friendly vibe, and I felt immediately safe and welcomed onto the mats as if I was part of the family (which is a big deal if you're a solo travelling female looking to jump into training with new people!).

It was also easy to find, had lots of parking, and the facilities are clean and well-maintained with a shower and changing room. If you're looking for a local gem, I'd definitely suggest checking out this place. Thanks so much for having me! Hope to be back sometime again soon

Visiting Campbell River and looking to train? Disciple BJJ and its members are very welcoming and the coach David is extremely knowledgable. The gym and its location are nice and convenient with lots of parking. They have high quality and exceptionally clean kept mats. Classes were fun and instructive. Even as a visitor I felt the instructors as well as the members made the effort to coach and teach me thru the positional rolls. Whether you’re a hobbyist practitioner or a competitor, Disciple BJJ is the spot to visit while in town or the place to sign up if you’re local to CR. I will definitely be making the trip back to this gym!

Really good environment for all styles of training. Fun crew, lots of competition based training but I don’t feel any pressure to go hard if I don’t want.
David is an awesome coach with the kids as well as adults.
I came into the gym as a purple belt a couple months ago and already feel like my jiujitsu game has levelled up so much.

I reached out to Disciple about out of town training, they welcomed me with open arms! Though I was only in town for two weeks, the high quality of instruction and content we went over was incredibly beneficial to the growth of my BJJ journey. Excellent staff who have great commitment to the health and wellbeing of students. My husband trains here and absolutely loves the team and the atmosphere. We will be sending our son to train as soon as he is old enough! David is very personable and great with kids as well.

Our boys have been training with David for just over a year. To say that he’s a great coach is an understatement. He is patient and gracious, balancing requiring respect with showing it.
My husband and I recently started to train as well, something I never thought I would do but David and the rest of the people at his gym are friendly, welcoming and encouraging.
