My first Dragons game,Tues, October 15th. I was so happy to see a great turnout for our Dragons support.
Nice clean cut arena. And I have to say the seats are very comfortable. I thought it was a bit to warm for an arena. I suspected the ice was a tad soft, if I'm in an arena in shorts and t-shirt. Though I had a winter coat just incase

I am thrilled to be using this facility especially track upstairs but this weekend I was very disappointed to see that there must have been 20 -25 people watching the hockey on the track area, taking up 1 lane, no big deal, we could move over, but difficult for ones with a walker or cane. Also saw numerous coffee cups left on floor when parents left, along with coffee lids and food pcs. Chips, wrappers. Also, some with younger children sitting on floor on phones, legs stretched out! There are spectator seats in arena? It will be a shame to see this beautiful facility not respected by some.

It's beautiful in there. Lots of space, washrooms, water fountains etc. Theres a track upstairs and the library has tons of books and resources for all ages. The infant area is so cute. Everyone is very friendly.

I wanted to share my experience at Wasaga Star Arena following a game on Sunday, July 13, 2025, against the Whalers. The level of aggression and poor sportsmanship displayed by the opposing team, particularly players 77, 16, and 19, was beyond what should ever be tolerated in hockey.

Throughout the game, players from the Whalers team specifically targeted our Alpine team members, particularly number 12 and number 13. While hockey can be rough, this went far beyond normal aggression. One player repeatedly slashed, shoved, and hit Alpine’s number 12, and when that player attempted to defend himself, the Whalers player violently smashed his stick across his back and head with such force that it broke! This is not acceptable behavior in hockey, and it’s a clear example of assault. Another incident involved a Walers player deliberately hitting Alpine’s number 10 in the wrist with their stick, which caused an injury that is still being medically assessed.

Despite these violent actions, the referees did not take appropriate action, nor did they issue warnings or penalties. The game continued without addressing these dangerous and unsportsmanlike behaviors, which is highly concerning.

This was not just a matter of aggressive play; it felt like these actions were ignored and even excused due to the nature of the teams. The Whalers team, being local, had a level of familiarity with the arena, the referees, and the coordinators, which led to us feeling like our concerns were dismissed. Additionally, it was disturbing to hear that when Alpine players tried to report the assault, they were threatened with local authority connections, with comments like, “It’s just hockey, and we know the cops.” It felt as though there was a racial bias at play, as Alpine’s team is made up of predominantly Indigenous, Black, and multiracial players. We couldn’t help but feel that if the roles were reversed, these violent actions would not have been tolerated in the same way at all.

When the referees and coordinators defend these actions, citing their NHL experience, it does not excuse their failure to ensure player safety or maintain fairness. Experience in a professional setting should not allow for the complete disregard of safety protocols, nor should it condone bias or discrimination.

The fact that these incidents were ignored is deeply troubling. I do not recommend supporting a facility or organization that allows players to be targeted, injuries to be ignored, and racial discrimination to go unaddressed. It is clear that both the referees and coordinators failed in their duties to protect the players, and that needs to be addressed for the safety and integrity of the game.

Update player #10 has a broken wrist. Still at the hospital seeking medical care.

Overall, it’s a nice enough addition to Wasaga.
I find the building itself to be quite ugly and sterile, I think there could have been more done here aesthetically. Inside, you’ll find a long sterile hallway with two skating rinks on one side and the library on the other. The rinks are great quality and the seating is also top quality. The library is ok, they have some cool spots to sit and read and some great lab and printing spaces. The staff however are already rude and dismissive!? Why is it so often places funded by OUR taxes have staff that act superior and dismissive? I wish I could act that way just one day in my job without being fired…. Annnyway….
I think more could have been done here to make it more of a community center rather than rinks and a library. A pool, a gym, community kitchen, etc etc. In comparison to other new community centers I’ve seen built, this one just misses the mark. Mostly due to the staff.

The community center in Oak Ridges is a comparison I am making to this, for context.
