After training at other martial arts clubs before starting at Ancaster Karate eight years ago, I can say with absolute certainty that no dojo comes even close to the quality and level of Ancaster Karate. This is true shoriji-Ryu Karate taught by a Sensei who has dedicated himself to the art for more than 40 years. Sensei Corvino truly cares about each and everyone of his students and not only pushes them to be great martial artists but great human beings as well. Ancaster Karate is truly the best of the best and you would be wasting your time going anywhere else.

I've been training at Ancaster Karate for over 15 years and can attest
to the high quality instruction that is offered to all who train here. Traditional Karate at its best, Sensei Corvino's ability to communicate the most technical aspects of the art is something rarely seen anywhere else. Sensei has preserved the true standards of excellence in Karate, the training lets us become better at everything we do.

Ancaster Karate is an excellent Karate club - Sensei Corvino instills discipline and stamina in his students. Not only is it impressive to see the black belts perform their katas at the testing events, but it is amazing to see the progress particularly the young students make. My son has attended for more than six years and progressed to the highest grade below black belt (black belts are only achieved at age 16 or older).

I am so thrilled we found Ancaster Karate, both for my kids and for myself. My three boys attend karate, and I attend the adult tai chi class. The dojo is a truly special place, and Sensei Corvino is a wise, kind, and dedicated teacher. I know my kids are deeply privileged to be able to study here. For myself, I wish I could attend more often, as every time I go to Ancaster Karate I walk away feeling connected, focused, and renewed.

I have been training with Sensei Corvino for 30 years. There is one word to describe his instruction: excellent. He truly cares about the progress of his students and about their overall well being as well. He is passionate about the study of karate and expects excellence from his students in all respects. He gives well thought out clear instruction and correction; when students train hard and follow his instruction they can't help but to excel.

I have learned so many facets of martial arts from training in this dojo: not only self defense but Tai chi, pa kua, sing yi, aikido techniques and most importantly kata, which is the heart and soul of karate. This is traditional karate at its best. Kata is becoming a lost art form in this fast paced instant gratification society. Kata is where all of the depth and meaning of karate lies.

I feel so confident in his ability to bring the best out of every student who trains hard, that I bring my son there as well. In the summer, it's so wonderful to see the children taking fresh organic fruit from his fruit trees after a hard training session ... They truly reap so many rewards of having such a compassionate and dedicated Sensei.

If you have any understanding of the qualities of traditional martial arts, Sensei Corvino is who you are looking for. If you are looking for a cookie cutter dojo that focuses on flashy tricks with no substance, then look somewhere else.

Luckily for me my parents found Ancaster Karate Club and enrolled me under the direction of Sensei Ralph Corvino. Now, 13 years later I'm in my mid twenties still learning every day from Sensei. From martial arts philosophy to a simple reminder to look up at the stars once in awhile and be grateful for all that we have.

Students at Ancaster Karate learn self defense through kata training and detailed application of each movement in a safe controlled environment. There is no Karate without Kata. The training builds self-esteem and confidence that manifests into everyday living. It requires the use of your mind, body and spirit. All lifestyle's can benefit from training here, as we are tought to overcome adversity and to never give up. I hold the utmost respect and gratitude for Sensei R. Corvino and the Ancaster Karate Club

I want to preface this by saying that I haven't been here for some 7 or so years - but prior to that my younger brother and I had been a student of Sensei's for a decade, starting at 6, until I was into my late teens. His instruction left an impact, and was one of the formative experiences of my childhood. I recognized a genuine lack of balance in my life when I stopped taking lessons and moved away.

We would never break wooden boards, or fight in a ring, the exercise at the higher levels was strenuous at times, and the instruction was disciplined - yet even as a young man I recognized the importance or such practices. When I look back at the belt that I reached, I can say with pride that I worked my *** off to get there, and know that it meant something. Everyone in that dojo was there to better themselves, and learn a traditional martial art, not pretend to be in an action move and put on a show... Though I'd argue that a well-executed kata by a skillful martial artist gives a **** of a show.

Stay safe during these quarantine times, happy holidays, and arigato Sensei.
