What a great place to visit if you're around slave lake! We were camped nearby and popped in here for an hour or so. They have a wonderful display of birds inside and the grounds outside are peaceful and full of birds. There was a few fun games for kiddos to play and prizes to win! They do outdoor tours here on some days, had we have known, we would have come earlier in the day!

Beautiful setup and area for birding. Small trails but full of diverse birds.

The centre itself is a piece of architecture, very well maintained and staff are super friendly and helpful.

This is worth the stop even if you aren’t a huge “birder.” The staff here are super knowledgeable and we saw Grouse poop for the first time ;0). The staff were very patient and had lots of answers to all our questions.

There is a lot inside the centre for people to see, watch, read and do especially for smaller kids but they still have lots of stuff for adults and teens!

We went on a great walk from the center and it did not disappoint. Beautiful with all the trees starting to “pop”

We returned two days later to watch the bird banding at the Bird Observatory just a short drive away from the center!

We will be back!

It was great fun to participate in their annual event this past weekend. Great breakfast and a good introduction to bird capturing and banding at their field station. Friendly people and good interesting information for all ages. Recommended stop. The annual songbird festival is a great time for me to visit.

Agree with previous comments that this would be a really enjoyable activity even for those who aren’t bird nerds, as the exhibit is very interactive, sensory, and creative. I really loved that all the info panels had Cree headings, as well as English. It shows that they collaborated with at least a translator, but likely with communities to inform their programming.
My 2.5 year old son had a blast with the interactive displays. There were activities available for older kids too and frankly I’m sure any adult would enjoy it all.
The gift shop was also really cool and I wanted to buy everything in it as they were high quality educational toys and products.
Highly recommend and max respect to the people who put this together and operate it!
We didn’t have time to go on the walking trails but I’m sure they’re beautiful.

This is such a wonderful place! The staff are so knowledgeable about the area and its resident birds and other wildlife. There is so much to learn in their gallery and so much to see on the short trails out back that wind along the lakeside. The foliage was dense when we visited so we didn't get to see as many birds as we'd hoped, but we heard so many unique and interesting calls that we never get to hear back home in Edmonton. So glad to see we have somewhere dedicated to education, outreach, and conservation. People don't care about things they don't understand, and places like this help bridge the gap so that conservation efforts receive more of the attention and funding they deserve. Thank you for the work you all do!
