I had the pleasure of taking the AST2 training with Guide Tim Ross at Canada West Mountain School.
Fantastic 4 days. The whole process with Canada West was very smooth, it was possible to pre buy the lift ticket before the course.
The course is organized with one day in Vancouver to cover theory and some practical training and 3 days in the back country of Whistler Blackcomb.
So glad we did it in Whistler as the conditions were perfect to learn and experience for real what was in the book.
Tim is a very experienced ski guide, know the material and the area like the back of his hand, his style of teaching is about organizing the days in a progression, so we were able to discover more and more as the days progressed.
A great communicator, he always made sure we understood and practiced the required material, making sure we were happy with how things were presented and taught.
What I also really appreciated was that when he encountered a situation or examples of specific terrain, he gave us feed back on what was good, bad and dangerous, so we were able to witness in real time decision to make. Basically he spent lots of time sharing his experience in a very precise and professional way.
I highly recommend him and Canada West Mountain School, with Whistler/Blackcomb as the location of the training.

I took my AST-1 with Canada West Mountain School in Whistler. Highly knowledgeable guides with an abundance of real-world experience that gave a fantastic outdoor education. Having two full days in the snow enabled us to see many different snow packs and analyze lots of scenarios, learn many different forecasting and trip planning systems, and practice rescues and group dynamics. I'd highly recommend this to anyone interested in avalanche safety training!

Did an Intro to Mountaineering course with Brian and Lelsey, and will always go back to this company for instruction, guides and trips. The most knowledge and relevant staff for what you want to learn, complete safety at all times, easy to organize, so helpful and fun. Instructors go above and beyond, and create a great group dynamic. Highly recommend. Will be seeing this crew for more adventures! Thanks guys, for such a great adventure, and new skills!

My first backcountry ski trip was amazing - I'm really glad to have done it with Canada West Mountain School. The School owner (our guide) was extremely experienced and knowledgeable and provided us with tips on how to prepare for an overnight ski trip (food, clothing, gear), tips on winter camping, basic avalanche training, safety awareness knowledge, and backcountry ski technique. The environment was fun and friendly and conducive to learning. I'd highly recommend the School to anyone looking to get into backcountry skiing or winter camping.

Had an incredible multipitch day with Terry at Shannon Falls! As newbies, Terry was very patient and supportive throughout. Also he taught us lots of useful techniques from rope management, being more efficient logistically as well as crack climbing techniques.

I did recently the AST-1 course. Everything was great. The communication with the administration team before the course, the online resources provided, the day-1 theory and practice, and the day-2 on site in Mount Seymour were amazing. I received the course from Ben, who was amazing too. Thanks

Very thankful that I took the AST1 course before stepping into the backcountry. Our guide Brent is very knowledgeable and with a great sense of humour. We had a small group which gave instructor the chance to work with us one on one.

We took AST-1 with instructor Fraser.
He did a great job of leading the online session, and an even better job during the field days. Highly recommend taking this course, especially if you can get Fraser as an instructor. He is going to make a great ACMG guide one day!
