Unfortunately, I have nothing good to say about The Children's Aid Society. I lost respect for them a long time ago. I know there are good people out there who truly care for the children but sadly there are very few. CAS needs to take a hard look at their employees, policies, and organization as a whole. Big changes need to be made.

They need better methods in place to help troubled underage youth who are struggling with homelessness in Cornwall. The crisis team was contacted at the hospital, rooming homes and tried to call any other option but children's aid was all the crisis team could provide due to youths age. Talked to a worker over the phone and didn't hear anything for weeks, when they were supposed to hear from someone within 72 hours, only to have workers at a later date speak to the youth and set them up with an appointment for counseling and drop their case file with unhelpful advice of going to OW when they didn't meet criterias/have support to apply. They still had an issue with housing , funds and a lack of support and have strained relationships because of the stress and overall effect to their mental health causing them to lash out.

Unfortunately, at CAS Cornwall there’s a lot of unfairness and abuse of power going on. They seem to have an agenda that isn’t actually about protecting children and as a result, both children and their parents are paying the ultimate price by suffering irreparable trauma from being removed from homes where there was never neglect or abuse to begin with. I hope things improve and CAS goes back to genuinely protecting children from bad homes.

Roughly 14 years ago my brother was removed from my families custody, this was a few weeks before I moved down there. When my brother found out I was living in with my parents he was ecstatic to see me, the first visit went well and he told me he was removed from school for no reason, spoke of his confusion on the matter. I promised everything would be fixed soon. After that visit things changed.

We had brought the family dog with us on the second visit because my brother missed her but they refused to let me see my brother, I was never told why only that I wasn't allowed. I questioned them once on the matter, I was annoyed of course what older sister wouldn't be, this was my brother. I was told to leave the building and wait outside. I might add it was -35 outside, I weighed 94lbs, was a teenager at the time and ended up with a pneumonia.

I filed a complaint once I recovered, submitted the doctors note + medication report to the front desk (which they conveniently lost) and made a similar complaint and submission at city hall.

This information was also used against this branch in court as proof of negligence and disregard for the welfare of older children. Suffice to say my brother was returned home quickly.

I will never forgive the particular branch or the way my family was treated.

I left an abusive relationship and was in ottawa at the time . I called cas in ottawa and the worker i got was amazing . She asked if i would feel safer out of the city and i agreed. She helped me and my 3 kids into a shelter in Cornwall . I got a house within a month. I offered to WORK with cas here and they have done nothing to help me . all she does is come and snoop around and talk to my 5 year old alone. I did not offer to work with them for this and when she comes this week im telling her to shut my file and she will have no CHOICE because im voluntary and there are 0 concerns about my parenting and the house and my kids!!
Stop harrasing ppl and START finding ways to help instead of trying to find things that aren't there!

I want to adopt a child but the process is stressful and not easy for perspective parents. They seem to not want people to adopt which is sad being that there are so many children looking for families. It is an essential service so not knocking them.

Workers need to continually up-grade intellectually ( that is more university courses esp Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Work & Occupations Ethics towards Society (& not always trying to cover their backs), always Documenting, Noting Practical & Suggested Ideas to Improve Quality & Quantity of Better Choices in the lives of not only Children but also their Caregivers. More Professionalism Needed.

Terrible place. If you are male you are the enemy. They will not listen to you. They say they are there to help children however that is not on their agenda. They are only interested in filling social housing for government contracts.
