An average person would think that concrete, being made up of controlled amounts of minerals would be fairly cheap, considering our economy is largely monopolized by the minerals industry. Plus, after our recent provincial elections, the government has dumped much more money and attention on schools than they have had before. The amount of concrete walls inside our school is absurd. Generally, schools take this money to bring it forward for funding sports teams and extracurricular programs, perfect for new opportunities for the school to expand and diversify its programs. The school, yes, does put money into these programs and the school is one of the leading schools around the municipality of what is referred to as Sherwood Park. Our sports teams generally perform excellently in athletic competitions. Though, I do have recommendations to make the school a better place for all.
Firstly, I would like to bring up our snowshoes. Yes, they are a great addition to recreational activities and options such as Outdoor Pursuits, where students get to enjoy the beauties of nature all year round. However, our school has an overabundance of snowshoes that, in my opinion, could have been funded for better use. An average pair of decent quality snowshoes costs around 150 CAD$, and, looking at the racks of snowshoes hidden inside our storage rooms, one could approximate the number of snowshoes to be around 100-125. The value of these snowshoes is around $15000-$18750, which, as most know, is a fairly large sum of money. Let's take a moment to analyze these statistics and compare them with our Albertan climate:
- Snow (deep enough for snowshoes) generally starts from somewhere in November to April
- This gives us 6 months of snowshoe use
- This leaves 6 months of snowshoes being useless

This can show us the unnecessary amount of snowshoes bought by the school, which could have been utilized someplace else for further improvements and positive changes. Changes include additional water fountains, extra washrooms, and food.

An issue that could be fixed is our lack of bottle-refilling stations. There are three, with two being downstairs and one upstairs. The issue, however, is when you are near the second-floor social classrooms, and you want to be on time. The walk takes approximately 30 seconds single-way, and running is illegal, so, you only could speed walk, taking 40 seconds in total. What if you went outside for lunch break? After the warning bell (5 minutes before actual bell), one would take 3.5 minutes to come in, and they’d only have 1.5 minutes to get ready and go to your next class. If one's locker is near the Options Wing, your walk would take a whole minute or more. See? If we added additional water refilling stations, students would not have to view water filling as a nuisance to their attendance. Even one extra refill station, costing ~$2000, would only be 10% of the budget spent on snowshoes.
Furthermore, we lack washrooms during peak hours, and sometimes, they can be disgusting. Washrooms are often full during the 5-minute warning-bell period after lunch, leaving long waits for washrooms. If we'd be able to install urinals or extra washrooms somewhere, this would further prevent lates, and giving a “healthier washroom experience” for all students. Students may not realize the time when they're outside, so, the time to cleanse their bladder after lunch is minimal.
Lastly, our school somewhat lacks a purchasable healthy, nutritious, lunch. The hassle of the everyday morning could be reduced by introducing more lunch meals to the school, creating more revenue for the school due to the high demand and supply. The law of demand states that the higher the price, the lower the quantity demand will be. If the school directly sells at equilibrium, the producers (the school) and the consumers (the students) will be satisfied. A bit extra money on groceries could add benefit to all; more sleep for the students, more money for the school.

In the end, however, the school is fairly decent compared to other schools.
