I don't know where to start.
Honestly it feels like home when you come to GL. Nico the service desk guy always welcomed you. I call in, the reception was very kind. She one time answered the phone without it ringing, she must hover around that thing.
Shane in sales is phenomenal. I can't describe his work ethic except phenomenal. The dude works and works for you. He isn't some sales guy they picked up off the street. I'm 90% sure this guy worked in the field and moved into sales. Which is good! I told him, "I need materials yesterday." I turned around and there they were...dude has a time machine or something.
Lumber and other material is quality and I found myself often driving from Steinbach to come to Grunthal Lumber because no one else had what I needed.
Management there is no joke. I say this often, workers reflect management.
The management must be top tier gentlemen, no bs, down to earth, hard working, focused and push to get quality material and to have things done or ordered in a timely and respectful manner.
I say that because I've spoken with them.
So, honestly "It's worth the trip," is now Grunthal Lumber.
Save your money and spend your gas to go to Grunthal Lumber.

Excellent staff. Decent craft section, with paints, craft bushes, stencils, wood cut outs, etc.
Nice section for gift shop items and cards.
The store overall has whatever you need, just ask the staff for anything; they'll get it. It's a full service lumber yard ... loading your vehicle or delivering your bigger orders. They have advisors to help you build your thing, or fix your stuff. I ordered a sound proof door, engineered trusses, a 6 inch fan and a special low flow bathroom tap. They have humming bird feeders, garden gloves, 3M picture hangers, various paint colours and shelving. I also found rubber boots, kitchen gadgets and counter top appliances.

Grunthal Lumber has always been fantastic to us! We've been their customer for years and were never disappointed! I highly recommend them ... no matter what project you had in mind! Their little gift corner is also something you should check out. So many gift ideas!

Very helpful staff, very friendly. While they clearly do not have everything with selection that you could find at a home Depot in Winnipeg, they have enough to get you out of a jam or for the weekend warriors without wasting 3 hrs commuting to Winnipeg.

Staff is also very receptive, I was looking for a tool that a staff member said he did not have, ended up finding the tool in the electrical section. He asked where it was and what it's used for, I explained it to him and he thanked me for it and knowing that they do have the tool. When staff ask questions of what they don't know instead of pretending to know is an "A+" employee in my books.

Awesome store with super friendly staff… reasonable prices for a small town … not only do they have “normal lumber store stuff” but they have some really cool home decor stuff as well.

Best service we have had the pleasure to experience so far! We used Grunthal Lumber to draft up our garage and had to have multiple adjustments due to city requirements, Byron always had super quick replies and was able to accommodate us in every way. Highly recommended 🙂

Multiple staff members were NOT wearing masks (indoors, in close proximity to me) despite current public health requirements. I will never shop here again.
I will let my many friends/family in the area know not to shop here again. I am doing some very large renovations, but will drive a longer distance to shop at a law-abiding establishment that doesn't try to kill people.
Also, the maskless service I got was quite slow, and their selection was poor. There are better places to shop, by far.

Called them a few weeks ago to place an order for some building materials. They told us they would call us back for pricing and confirmation but they never did. We called them a week later and nobody knew anything about our order so we ordered again and they promised again that they would call us back asap. And again they never did. So we called them another time a week later but our order was still not placed. Also they didn't really listen to us and hung up right in the middle of the conversation! This place is the worst! Never again!
