Harv's Air is great for ground school. You can study at your own pace and the written info combined with the videos and animation make the learning experience easy. I would recommend Harv's to anyone contemplating earning their PPL and I would suggest any of their other offerings, like the CPL, are probably just as good. You cannot go wrong as long as you put in the time and attention.

I followed the Pilot Training program for online ground school. The material is extensive, but very well explained and comes in many format (Slides, audio, video) to suit everybody’s need. I mostly followed through with slides and would occasionally watch the video if some material needed further clarification, so depending on how you study you can adapt your approach. The quizzes and mock exam are great, the quizzes are harder than the mocks but once they are done you really have a good grasp over the curriculum. I highly recommend going through all the quizzes and mocks, I scored 91% on the PPAER as a result. There’s really no good alternative to pilot training as an online ground school, and I mean that in a good way. See you all in the skies.

I recently purchased the Class 2 Flight Instructor online course from pilottraining.ca (a division of Harv's Air) and used it to prepare for my Transport Canada written exam (I passed!).

I’ve been a pilot for 48 years, a flight instructor for 45 of those. I’m currently renewing my Class 2 FIR. I’ve also recently retired from the University of British Columbia, where I was Training Lead for a $200 million+ software upgrade project, responsible for the design, development and delivery of comprehensive training for 85,000 faculty, staff and students. I’ve seen a lot of training content!

I can honestly say the Class 2 Instructor course is exemplary, a benchmark example of online training. Although Harv's doesn’t use AI elements, they have raised “traditional” delivery (real person, PowerPoint presentations and whiteboard) to a very high level.

Course design is excellent, offering detailed coverage of all necessary areas. Inclusion of video sequences for the air exercises adds value, even for experienced instructors.

Aaron Doherty, the "face and voice" of the course, is a master at the craft of “classroom” presentation. He is as personable as he is knowledgeable, and his mastery of the art of “Prairie style” humor (yes, it’s a thing!) perfectly leavens the lessons. I never tire of his screen presence!

Module length is excellent, with even the 60+ minute presentations being manageable, due equally to polished design and Aaron’s presentation skills.

Quiz structure is perfectly balanced with the material and the ability to re-take a quiz, combined with the embedded links to the material explaining the correct answers make the quizzes equally valuable for self-evaluation and study.

The practice exams covered well the material examined in the AIRAT I just wrote, and the ability to earn a certificate for a pass mark made even this old Pelican smile. The learning factor of Effect at its finest!

I haven’t worked through all the flight instruction tips yet but they are a nice bonus, and a real gift to new instructors. Thanks for including them.

The course price is very fair, representing an incredible value, considering the breadth and quantity of the material included. I have already recommended pilottraining.ca to several students.

I unqualifiedly recommend pilottraining.ca courses to anyone learning to fly in Canada.

This is one of the greatest places to do ground school. All of the main ideas are taught so thoroughly and well, it’s impossible to fail the PPAER. I really liked the simplicity of the system, and Aron knows how to teach well! This place helped me get a 95% on the exam, so you bet I’ll be doing future ground school courses here! Thanks again!!

I am a full time paramedic trying to get my private pilot's license. When I first started studying, I was with a different online ground school and it just wasn't going well at all. I couldn't stand their teaching style, I was confused about critical subjects, and ultimately was feeling frustrated and upset. I doubt I would have passed the TC exam, and was having doubts about my future in aviation.

Out of desperation I reached out to this Harv's air school and enrolled in their PPL online course. It was a lifesaver.
