So I stopped in today. I don't know about 45 minutes before they were closing and I was looking for something specific although general because I am an MEC after all and I am an outdoor enthusiast. But when I got down to it and specific, the reason I came in was to buy a pair of cycling shoes with some very specific requirements in terms of I'm particular in my shoe wear. In any event, the staff was very friendly, open and knowledgeable and collaborative when I walked out with a really brilliant pair of cycling shoes. I could see the management working in the background as well as the sales associate that assisted me. Please keep up the good work. It's very refreshing. I did buy a pair of shoes and I compared after and the pricing is really good and in line so you have a good model too. Keep it up!

My wife and I came into this store on the 2nd of July looking for a replacement section of pole for our 10 year old tent.

We were told that MEC didn’t have a repair service anymore, but while we were talking to the salesperson, we noticed that there was a sale on a very similar model of tent from the same manufacturer.

The young lady, whose name was Rowan, then answered all of our questions promptly and professionally, comparing the specifications of our old tent to the new one.

She then let us set up our gear shed that we had purchased a few years ago for our old tent and attach it to the floor model that was on display in the store to ensure that it would fit on the new model.

This was the reassurance we needed to purchase a new tent.

It was entirely because of Rowan’s helpfulness, professionalism, and tolerance of us temporarily dismantling the store display, that MEC made a sale to us as we purchased a new tent on the spot.

We highly recommend this store, and especially Rowan, who was tremendously helpful!

Went to purchase several items.
I forgot my credit card and only had Google wallet so I could only tap.
My purchase was over the tap limit and it's against store policy to do separate payments without the physical card with you so I asked to hold some items. (This I understand)

I went back the next day and asked to pay for the rest of the items and they told me they couldn't find them even though I clearly saw the store clerk place it in the cupboards the day before. This other guy at the counter gave up looking before even checking all the other drawers/cupboards as there was a "designated area" for on hold items.

I went home and ordered it online since it said it was in stock in NV and I had a discount code.
But then I got an email saying my order was going to be delayed since they needed to ship it from another location. It still said at that point that it was in stock on the website so I knew no one had bought it.

So I went back to the store (3rd time in a week) to ask what was going on because it said online that it was in stock.
Another employee who overheard said they found the exact item i put on hold and ordered online. And guess where it was? In the cupboards behind the registers!
I asked if I could just take them on the spot instead of waiting for another pair to come from another location since I'd already bought them, but the worker told me they couldn't do that and I would have to cancel my online order and pay for them again which I didn't want to do because I wouldn't get the discount and I didn't mind waiting.

Over 10 days after placing the order, I got an email saying that my order was cancelled because it's out of stock everywhere and they're not ordering any more.

This was overall just a super frustrating experience. I wasted so much of my time and now I'm wasting even more time writing this review. I just feel it's a shame how much the company changed for the worse after being acquired.

So all in all I recommend never putting things on hold here but if you do, keep an eye on where the clerk puts it because you may never see it ever again.

Bad service

Hey bike guys: it’s not our job to be informed about your products, it is YOUR job to educate your customers.

It’s tiring to go to places with elitist workers that act like they are better than you when, as a customer, you are genuinely interested in purchasing something meaningful to improve the quality of our lives.

Also, rude employees pretending to merchandise beside us when looking at products, but are unwilling and uninterested in answering questions.

Can everyone remove the stick out of their butts? As a customer I refuse to pretend to know because we are “supposed to know” if we are important enough to engage with. You guys are creating a crumby culture in your store.

Please consider for your next MEC culture staff meeting to ask your bike staff to humble themselves to a place where they can return to their humanity and sincerely inform customers about products rather than acting like customers are not important enough for their time and effort.

Rhett was fantastic! He thoroughly helped me find everything i was looking for on my first backpacking trip. He gave me good advice on water filtration, cooking set ups, chairs, and recommended what he used personally. I was very satisfied with my help and would recommend him especially if you need help on what to choose for your backpacking related adventures.
