I have been in many hospitals throughout Alberta, including Calgary, and I have to say I have NEVER been treated with more respect and compassion than I have been at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. I can not comment on all wards, but I was in the cardiac ward, and the nurses and doctors were all attentive, compassionate, and were very pleasant to talk to and deal with.

There was no problems with getting my medications on time, in fact the nurses went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable, including bringing me a fan when I told them I felt stuffy.

I have difficult veins when it comes to getting IV's, and they would get the nurse on duty that they considered to be the very best at doing them.

All in all I would rather be in this hospital if I am sick, than any other hospital I have ever been in.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors that looked after me the first week of May 2024. You made my stay as comfortable as possible and I am very grateful.

I was in and out in 2.5 hours which is pretty decent, everyone was really nice considering you can tell they are understaffed. The star lost is because no one cares about each other in the waiting room. I had to listen to people literally watching a movie on their phone full blast, people also having full phone conversations, and you would think security would deal with this but no he also had music playing on speakerphone for all to hear. I get it in a “me” society not many care but the hospital is meant to should be a quiet space for people who are having a emergency and to clarify this was over and above average people noise.

Also if you aren’t a baby or child and are sick go to the walk in clinic the next day. Hospitals aren’t for your sick tummy’s it’s for emergencies!!

For the past month we have had our mothers in the Medicine Hat Hospital. We are so happy with the care that they received on multiple floors. The food has been good and they have been cared for. The nurses have difficult jobs looking after sick people. They are not miracle workers and should not be expected be. As with any organization there may be grumpy employees but I have not run into many.

Was held against my will for an evaluation . Released in control of myself - when I arrived home I checked my bag to realize they had forgotten to put my medication back in MY BAG. It was not taken or destroyed intentionally yet I had to then suffer through withdrawal of a medication you are supposed to be slowly tapered off of. Was told on the phone if a medication is left in the hospital it has to be medically destroyed. How about I get my personal belongings back when I am supposed to ? Who gave permission to take my medicine ?

Staff are doing their absolute best, but wait times are absolutely ridiculous. Hospital er is clearly short staffed and the only people to blame are the managers/board members that choose to have 6 figure salaries instead of putting money into doctors and nurses.
Clearly it’s time to restructure their system.
Took my father in at request of ER doctor to have new IV antibiotics administered. After 5 hrs he has yet to see a doctor, took four hrs to even get into a bed.

This hospital is way understaffed. The wait times in the ER are pathetic. I called 811 and they told me to come in because I was experiencing chest pains and I've been here an hour and they still haven't done any tests to rule out a heart attack. The staff so far has always been friendly and helpful, and they can only do so much, but come on, hire more so people can get the help they come for without having to wait for 6+ hours

The entire hospital grounds have been designated as "non-smoking", so if a patient wants a cigarette they have to walk all the way to the street while wearing a little hospital gown.

A hospital visit can be an intense moment in a person's life, whether they are a patient or visiting a loved one. Treating smokers like this seems a bit excessive. The normal rules of not smoking within a certain distance from doorways should be enough.

In any case, the doctors and nurses were all kind and knowledgeable. I'm very thankful for the treatment that I received here.

I went to hospital back in April and had to say bye to my Dad. He had bad dementia and was very sick. I was in there everyday for 2 months and a lot of good nurses helped him and all of us--- his family with whatever we needed. We went from ER to 5 west to 4 west to the 2 north so we met a lot of people through out. My dad was aggressive at times and it was very hard to go through but if it wasn't for the hard workers at MHRH I don't think we would have gotten through it as good as we did. There was one employee who really stuck out for me....She would sing to my dad old elvis or johnny cash songs which he loved and it would bring him out of his shell and it almost seemed like he was my regular dad again and i lived for those moments and then she would tell jokes or just talk to him about his farm and when he used to fly planes just get him talking and remembering....I'm very grateful that she took time out of her day to engage with him it meant a lot to him and to his kids so very appreciated that. I understand the hospital is a busy place and not everyone can spend one on one time with patients but some people do take the time. And these people are angels and I'm glad my dad had one watching out for him the last couple of weeks. It sure makes the visits to hospital not as bad as they could be when you meet kind people to brighten your days.

I was just in hospital recently with my wife for her knee surgery and I'm grateful I saw this angel again it reminded me of my dad's last days .... shes still engaging and making people happy and bringing laughter with her energy and big smile. Need more people like Brandi the nurses aid on 5 west who is not only a great dancer but by far the best driver of all the beds and wheechairs that I've ever seen!
Thank you to you and to all staff at mhrh for all the kindness and hard work you show to your patients everyday. You have no idea how much it means to us.
