I am still shaken by the horrifying racist attack my family and I experienced at Mill Woods Rec Center. A couple targeted us with relentless harassment, calling me a “dirty Asians” mocking our appearance, and even imitating our speech. This went on for over 20 minutes while we were stuck in line. We stayed quiet, hoping it would stop, but it only escalated.

The worst part? Staff and security did NOTHING. Security told us to “be quiet” and “just deal with it” if the harassment continued in the pool they will ONLY THEN help us with the issue; while front desk staff, who heard everything, refused to take action—even after we told them this kind of hate has no place in a public space, especially where children are present.

Not only was this traumatizing for me and my family, but young bystanders also witnessed this hatred. No child should have to see or hear such open racism in what is supposed to be a safe community space. The failure of Mill Woods Rec Center to act shows a complete disregard for the safety and well-being of its visitors.

Inefficient service. Always have to wait as there is barely any staff st the desk additionally the system too is slow. Why even 2025 we can't put a scanner there for sign in.

Update on 11th Feb
Same nonsense, 1 person on counter and there is a lineup for like 15 people.

I went here today and witnessed a family was getting verbally attacked by another patron of this establishment, I went up and check up on them and was saddened by what I heard. I cant believe that in this day and age that people like these still exist. How can you claim to be a safe place for the community when you turn a blind eye when a person in need desperately asks for your help? I hope the management takes this issue seriously because this might be my first time writing about it but it definitely wasn't the first incident that I have witnessed. Ive had enough of this blatant racism and discrimination against POCs and it has to STOP.

If I could give this place less then 1 star I would in a heartbeat. Today I witnessed the most disturbing and discussing scene where a young woman and her kids and family where brutally harassed and not a single employee or member of security tried to help them. This went on for over 20mins. I will never be bringing my family here again. I'm also utterly discussed by the fact that the security and staff even told the young woman to deal with it herself. Like can you explain why you have security there if it's not for the protection of your guests? This place is just a joke.

Nice place, the security staff, on the other hand, need to learn some manners when they are told that a minister is counciling and to please give me time, I don't appreciate being asked to leave. It's a gathering place, so I didn't know the problem. We were VERY considered about disturbing anyone. Just because I was using the Bible to help these children and not the book of your choosing doesn't mean you can be disrespectful.

If you’re a big fan of racism then look no further. If you’re not then you might wanna skip out. A lady was being harassed here and staff did nothing about it. Just told her to ‘ignore it’. No punishment for the harassers. Won’t be going back. Not safe for women or minority groups.

My friends and members of their family experienced severe verbal harassment and racism at this facility and staff decided not to do anything about it. Incredibly disappointed as this place is supposed to be for everyone. The fact that they’re tolerating that kind of disgusting behaviour here is more than enough for me to NEVER come here or bring my family. I encourage people to go somewhere else where staff will give a crap. What an absolute joke of a place and its people. Pathetic.

I was visiting Edmonton for a competition and was having a practice session at Mill Woods Rec Centre and thought it was a great facility. The ice wasn't the best I've ever skated on, but the arena was nice and bright and great cleanliness.

As a bonus I left my phone there in a changeroom and the staff were quick to find it and kept it in their office before I returned shortly afterwards to retrieve it with friendly staff helping me out.
