This institution, which blends high school and college, has a substantial population of international students. Unfortunately, the high school section seems to have associations with individuals involved in illicit activities. Death threats and abusive behaviour.

The dormitories are not properly maintained or sanitized for new occupants. Issues include viral infections, dust accumulation, and unprofessional behavior from security staff. There are also privacy concerns with management accessing personal belongings (known for putting their hands through personal belongings in drawers and closets). Mail services are restricted, which is concerning from a human rights perspective. Furthermore, there are instances of favoritism shown towards the director's family members, impacting student opportunities.

I experienced vehicle vandalism twice on the college premises, and the security system proved ineffective. The police noted that the surveillance footage was of poor quality.

The apprenticeship and business programs suffer from inadequate equipment, staffing, and facilities due to ongoing construction projects. There have been costly errors in project planning, leading to disruptions and resource mismanagement that ultimately impact student learning and development.

There are people at the college who want to make a positive difference for the community. They routinely leave and are replaced by people who put themselves above the organization.

The focus on international student visas may bring money in. It does little to benefit local Canadian students.

Mismanagement and conflicts of interest plague decision making at all levels. Bad behaviour is rewarded

Diwali in the Longhouse in 2018 is symbolic of what the college has become.

The Longhouse was constructed for Indigenous students and building cultural awareness.

It wasnt built for unsupervised parties, getting drunk, and damaging artwork.

Lack of responsibility and self-serving staff have allowed the focus to shift. Issuing visas with little attention to quality makes it irrelevant to most local students.

Northwest community college has been an excellent experience as a student. I have spent the last two years here doing a wide variety of class university classes and will soon be entering my third. Both the staff and students are very helpful and friendly, creating an amazing atmosphere of learning. I would recommend most everyone.

Very friendly,relaxed and efficient staff. Buildings are clean on the inside and outside walkways and parking lot are well maintained in an abnormal cold and snowy winter. I am enjoying the campus's "culture".

Empathetic instructors, small class sizes, and field schools are what CMTN does well. The rest, not so much.

Housing/Security - This is what turned my entire experience to be a negative one for me. There was little professionalism. Major safety concerns (I was a residence advisor for my 2 year term there) were left unaddressed and chalked up to "I did my part, there is nothing else I can do". This is not good enough when the fire-suppression equipment has 0 charge and is over a year past-due their inspection. I had many negative encounters with a particular individual who was a security officer at CMTN, though I expect this experience is not going to be common with everyone; the precipitating factors were circumstantial, however it was dealt with very unprofessionally and many profane words were thrown at me. I ended up feeling harassed, and when expressing my concern of being targeted/harassed, the response was "on whose part?". This same individual decided to yell profanity at me while in the community, off-campus, as well.
The housing coordinator would enter rooms, sometimes security as well, without ANY notice and any notice of entry. Hopefully, you were dressed! This lack of privacy and intrusiveness was insulting at best. At worst, it led to a very depressing and empty experience while living on the dorms. The rules in their handbook were often stretched to accommodate what they wanted to accomplish; there were many surprises.

Other things of note - It was evident that NWCC was struggling financially. It appears they are shifting their focus to bring in international students. I think that this is fine; however, as a local or Aboriginal student, you may feel like you are secondary in the college's interest. RA's made multiple attempts to secure a spot on campus to have social events to increase community engagement, which was responded to with multiple counts of "I'll look into that", and never going anywhere. In contrast, international students were given the privilege of celebrating Diwali in the longhouse in 2018. If you were there, you may have found this to be quite disrespectful to the Aboriginal community due to the abundant alcohol consumption.

If I had to do it over, I wouldn't go to CMTN again. With every other educational institution I've attended, I left with a great sense of pride of having attended with many positive experiences to recollect with staff and community members. However, at CMTN, the response and feeling I receive is "You're no longer a student here."

If I HAD to attend CMTN again, I would live off-campus and then my review would be a 4-5/10.

It's cheap tuition due to CMTN being designated a community college. However, it's the same at any other community college in Canada, so it's nothing really unique to CMTN.

Really disappointed with the staff.when we try to call the guys to discuss something on college phn number,they don’t even respect the caller and always try to disconnect the phone call as soon as they can with unsatisfactory excuses.If the staff can’t talk properly then its better for them to learn first how to talk before teaching students.

Happy Satisfied with my course in Prince Rupert.Only thing I didnt like were the snot up nosed old bags at registration.They treat you like a kid!! Time for those 2 to retire.
