We drove 100 km to Stettler and visited Schrum’s shop.
Have not tried the rib roasts yet, but the beef sausage and the frankfurters are the berries.
Will definitely return.

Ended up with 16 hams for 2 pigs, there was no way I could get that many hams off a pig, short on bacon, and fatty there was so much ice build up, you would see on old meat, he obviously is selling in his butcher shop all the outside grown animals, anyone curious can test the meat for lack of vitamins, that indoor animals don't have.. definatly suspect animal swapping, with a 1400.00 bill, definitely do not recommend,

This is a throwback to butcher shops of days gone by. Some of the best selection of AAA beef anywhere. Prices are higher than you would pay in a supermarket, but the quality is also higher than you would expect. Good service, parking and location. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, which adds to shopping experience. Vegans beware !! This establishment is NOT for you. Carnivores unite ! You will be pleasantly surprised. Oh yeah, try the rib eye...

Had Shrums butcher a side of beef. Asked for steaks cut to 1 1/2 inches. Steaks were cut unevenly came out between 3/8 of an inch and 11/4 inches on same steak. Impossible to cook evenly. Did not receive the tongue which i asked for. When I complained owner was rude and hung up. Worst meat cutters I have used to date.

Terrible.
Meat was not cut properly with and contained excessive amounts of fat around the outside. Have to re-cut prior to preparing.
Bacon cuts contain numerous slices with 95% fat and a tiny sliver of meat. Charged by weight so paid for this "bacon". Have not had yet, but not optimistic of curing taste or flavor.
Price was far beyond what was quoted.
Packaging sizing was not appropriate or as requested for a family of 4. packaging sizes where huge with us having to repack and split the packaging. Wrapping was poorly done and prone to freezer burn and open exposure to air. Wrapped in paper, not sealed as other shops do.
General fat of meat seems excessive, animal was picked by a local farmer friend to split with his daughter, doubt father with choose an over-fat animal for his daughter. Shrums claims it was the animal, still does not explain poor cuts or excessive fat on the outside of meets that can easily be trimmed. Strongly suspect animal swapping.

Edit: Confirmed other half of animal was fine. Bacon was not great and excessive fat made preparing harder and still get bites of just pure fat. Hard to express just how disappointed we where. Freezer full of meat I just don't want.
